How to use HP ePrint Wireless Direct Printing

HP ePrintHP LaserJet toner printers have a new feature that allows printing from nearly any location to a capable printer. This service-based feature is known as ePrint.

ePrint works by first assigning an email address to the printer. Printing is as simple as sending an email that contains the document to be printed to your printer’s address. The HP ePrint service opens the email, prints the email and the documents that are attached. Images can be printed using this feature as well as PDF files, Word documents and PowerPoint documents.

ePrint was created for ease of use and convenience instead of high quality, professional output. Documents that are printed using ePrint will most likely appear different from the original document. Images and text may appear differently than the source document and may also contain formatting differences. Print jobs that are in your printers’ queue can be managed in ePrintCenter by using the printer “Job History.” It is recommended to avoid printing documents that require high quality reproduction due to the loss of clarity in using this convenient feature. The HP ePrint service costs nothing and can be used entirely free with an HP ePrint capable printer.

Several printers that did not include the ePrint functionality can be upgraded to use the service with a firmware upgrade. The upgrade allows printing from email-capable devices while using ePrint. HP LaserJet toner printers that have been manufactured since the firmware became available will not need to be updated by consumers, as they will be updated by HP prior to shipping.

ePrint allows businesses the ability of increasing efficiency and productivity by being able to print from any mobile device, including cell phones, tablets, laptops and more. Sending documents to an ePrint capable device can be done from nearly any location while on the move. HP features Wireless Direct Printing which allows users to connect to supported printers without having to connect to a network or to the Internet. Users can easily access a printer using any WiFi device that allows “peer-to-peer” networking and can then print using the feature.

For home users, the printer that will use ePrint needs to be connected directly to the network and not to a computer via USB port. The printer will need to be connected to a router, a hub, a modem, or a switch via Cat5 (Ethernet) cable. If the printer is connected to a computer via USB there will be no service as the printer needs a direct Internet connection to HP.

ePrint has proven to be a reliable feature with constant uptime for 24/7 printing. If there are problems experienced while trying to send email through ePrint, your email service provider could be having technical difficulties. If there are issues when sending documents to print via phone, the problem could be the phone’s Internet connection or the email client being used. Overall, ePrint is a smart and useful feature for HP LaserJet toner printers that is excellent for printing on-the-go.
